What can I say- we were in China at a stranger’s wedding.
In 2010, we had the good fortune to live in Beijing, China, for several months. It was an amazing experience, and one of the highlights was attending a Chinese wedding.
We didn’t know the bride and groom, who were friends of one of Jon’s employees, but they graciously welcomed us into their celebration. We were even invited into the bride’s home for the ‘bride fetching’, where the groom comes to the get the bride from the parents. The whole event was incredible, even though almost no one in attendance spoke English.
And, for the record, many people were dressed just as casually as Jon! Some things were the same- the wedding dress, the cake- but some things were different, like cutting the cake with chopsticks and a complimentary plate of cigarettes.
